Date: Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Come Join the Fun and Enjoy a Delicious Dinner at The Lamp Post Inn in their private fireplace
room!  Relish the Camaraderie of your Fellow Civil War Enthusiasts! Our special dinner guest
speaker will be nationally renowned
Dr. Bruce Chadwick who will be talking about “The Civil War Goes to the Movies”.  Members and
Non-members are invited!

Dr. Chadwick will be talking about the great Civil War movies, such as “Gone with the Wind,”
“Glory,” and “The Searchers” and discuss how all of them, together, helped to heal the wounds
of the nation and bring North and South back together.  Not surprisingly, most of the great Civil
War movies were tied to anniversaries.  The big surge of silent films was around 1910 – 1915
(50th anniversary of the conflict), “Gone with the Wind” was just after the 75th anniversary, and
“Glory” was released at the 125th anniversary.

As we will see, in most of these movies there is no real winner or loser, all the soldiers were
courageous and America won the war.  The presentation is full of action stories and a lot of
humor, and will include a slide show.

Dr. Bruce Chadwick is an experienced public speaker and has appeared all over the world and
on various television networks (especially the History Channel) delivering talks on the American
Revolution, the Civil War, and the history of forensics.  He is the author of 30 books, most on
history and some on forensics and crime investigations.  Dr. Chadwick, a Syracuse University
graduate, began his career as a reporter with the New York Daily News.  He became a University
professor in 1992 and teaches courses that range from the history of the American Revolution to
Crime and Punishment, the History of Sports, and a course on the U.S. and the World.  His latest
book is Law and Disorder, published by MacMillan in the spring of 2017.

He also works as a theater and film critic for the History News Network, the online magazine for
history lovers.  There, he reviews some 70 plays and movies each year, all focused on some
aspect of history.  He also reviews museum exhibits for the History News Network.

We are so proud to be having Dr. Chadwick as our May Dinner Meeting speaker!
